The Easiest Way for Introverts to Meet New People

I felt this was an urgent need to attend to immediately. Every day I am asked by young living distributors all around the net – How do I meet new people and generate interest in my Young Living Business when I am so shy or I don’t know what to say?

When you are shy, or introverted, you won’t necessarily go out of your own way to meet people. I know what that’s like. I am horribly shy. In fact, so painfully shy its very difficult for me to get past the initial hello for fear I that I might blurt out something insanely stupid. You might get lucky and I’ll mumble  the occasional “excuse me”.

as a shy person. I cannot tell you how much I actually shook in my boots, sweated, and stammered because of how shy I really was. But, get me talking on a passionate subject, like Young Living Essential Oils and I’ll talk to an audience all day – as long as I forget the audience is there. Now, I’ve developed some coping strategies, but I’ll tell you something, being a shy introvert is one of the biggest social handicaps anyone could ever suffer with. I mean its a viscerally PAINFUL experience. I speak from personal experience.

Its one of the reasons I became so good at what I do. To overcome my shyness, I just became an EXPERT and a GO-TO GIRL. I knew people would start to seek me out to help them once they knew I could.

I don’t like to invite myself into another person’s space, I am no good at small talk, but I am very friendly and love to chat or help out when someone initiates a conversation or asks a question. I also have a bit of a type A personality – so I tend to be very driven, focused and engaged.

Ok, but enough about me. Let’s talk about you and how you can actually turn this around to your advantage in your Young Living Business. If I was able to get over it and become a fairly successful young living distributor, anyone can.

Ok, big shot, what do I do to get people to talk to me about my Young Living Business and how do I not collapse into my shell and hide?

I am so glad you asked.

Have you ever seen Office Space? Remember the Flair? 15 pieces of Flair? Yep, laugh as hard as you want, but guess what, us introverted folks, we really need to step it up a bit when it comes to our FLAIR.

Yeah folks, that’s what I’m talking about. Shy people – I am talking to you.

You need FLAIR.

You cultivate flair as part of your personal brand, your personality, Your attraction marketing strategy, your ticket to a guaranteed conversation no matter where you go. Your flair gives you that appeal – that stand-out of the crowd – wow I gotta go talk to that person edge.

Everything about you needs to exude FLAIR and pow. How do you do it? Let’s start out by what you wear.

After all, you are in business now, so you better be out shamelessly self-promoting yourself!

Creative ways to use FLAIR.

I know a gal who decorates her purse with buttons that she made. Every button says something different and has an arrow pointing to the next button to continue the conversation. Let’s just say, her purse – its huge.

You know what – everywhere she goes, she gets people looking at her purse, bending down to read buttons and laughing. She strikes up conversations everywhere she goes. Tacky? maybe, but flair? Definitely. She inserts her network marketing opportunity like this:

“be the change you wish to see in others” Ghandi -  one button with an arrow pointing to the next button: “but I can help you be the change you need in your life, ask me more!” – then a final button with her website address and message or sizzle line number. She tells me she spends more time chatting with folks than getting shopping done.

Ok, enough about buttons.

Things you have to wear daily: like T-shirts-

Gosh – have you ever been to Cafe Press? www.cafepress.com I do not know why more network marketers do not take advantage of t-shirts, tank tops or sweatshirts? I mean, seriously we all wear everyone else’s brands ALL DAY LONG – why not brand yourself?

Be as outrageous and funny as you can. Everyone loves a great shirt with a savvy or smart one-liner- but always include a call to action and a reason why they should strike up a conversation with  you. Guaranteed you’ll make people smile and you’ll definitely enjoy the conversations you start.

“I’m in the “oil” business…”  on the front -  “so ask me why I drive a Prius!” on the back.

Heehee, now THAT’S a conversation starter.

“Only smart people “oil up”. – (your website please or phone number on the back) Replace words and switch things around with words that strikes you  – “Only hip people “diffuse” it”.

“Oil – Save you!” That’s my husband’s idea.

“Ask me why I am wearing this t-shirt” plain white on black – I saw that one, and I actually got into a conversation with a guy who sells – of all things – websites!  Talk about edgy!

Don’t think you can be creative? Think about problems all day long that you’ve solved with your oils or other products.

“Ask me how I reduced my asthma symptoms using no drugs!”

“ask me how I reduced my flareups  from Fibromyalgia naturally!”

Put your favorite testimonial on a t-shirt.

One liner, call to action, and a simple way you can introduce your story and ask questions.

What Other Pieces of Flair?

If you aren’t a t-shirt or button wearing kind of guy or gal, that’s fine, but you should think of other ways to incorporate a bit of flair into your lifestyle.

Use a Young Living water bottle everywhere you go, for everything.

Use your Young Living messenger bag to carry all your brochures, business cards, etc. Carry that everywhere.

Get a sticker for your car – Flair it up a bit!

My daughter wears scarves every day. And each one is more outrageous, crazy and inventive than the next. I have another friend who wears electric blue boots and an electric blue hat that matches. She’s easy to pick out in a crowd. And guess what, she’s all about making connections. That color is wild!

Look, life’s just no fun if you can’t be colorful and creative with branding your Young Living Business. Be professional about it, but goodness – it is YOUR young living business after all- be stunning and be creative with it.

As a Young Living Distributor though, the biggest secret to your flair – its in your nature – you have to carry it off as if it were a completely natural part of you, not as if it were something you are flaunting or tossing about in people’s faces. You are making a statement, not screaming at the top of your lungs. Heart-Centered Attraction Marketing™ is all about strategic placements of product AND branding. So, find your flair, live in it awhile and then grow it to creative proportions.

But what do I SAY when folks ask about my FLAIR?

Ask them questions – memorize a list of questions and just ask questions – you will qualify the person with those questions, so control the conversation, listen, and be ready with more questions. People aren’t interested in YOU, they are interested in themselves. So get them talking about themselves and what they want in their lives.

If someone comes up to me and says “so, why do you drive a Prius if you invest in oil?” I’ll reply – That’s a GREAT question and I’ll answer it in just a second but first let me ask you something – have you ever heard of or experienced Young Living Essential Oils? If the person says no – great! you have a wonderful in!

“Have you ever had an infection or a scrape or a burn that seemed to take forever to heal? That’s what we use essential oils for. Have you ever suffered from a headache? We use essential oils to alleviate feelings of pain from things like headaches, muscle aches, and fatigue.”

Or you can ask if they use alternative health care products like herbs or natural, non-toxic products for their family? How have they worked for you? Have you been very satisfied with the results of those products?

No matter the approach you want to take you want to eventually lead back to their original question with an answer: Well, I use non-toxic, eco-friendly essential oils and essential oil infused products and they paid for my Prius – what if I could show you a way that your personal care products could actually PAY for YOUR car?

Then hush up, don’t think about the next thing you are going to say to that person… and here’s the greatest secret….
