Keep Your Business Ethical When Sharing Young Living
Some things you need to keep in mind when talking about Young Living or holding educational classes or teleconferences. You want to ensure you are operating within the legal guidelines and laws of your state and country. When in doubt, seek advice from Distributor Network Services or your local governing bodies, as laws vary from state to state and from country to country.
Here’s some general guidelines to ensure you build a successful business and provide safe and healthy services to your clients and customers:
You should not attempt to diagnose or promise to cure or treat any disease or disorder. You provide guidance, make suggestions, and offer holistic treatments for the whole person or animal. Always recommend clients see their doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. Your testimonials should also avoid the use of the terms “cure” or “treat” or “diagnose”.
Start ALL educational calls, educational sessions, seminars, or events with a legal disclaimer similar to the one below:
“This event was designed for educational purposes only The statements made during this educational event have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Products discussed during this call or event are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Any mention of earnings or income should not be construed as representative of fixed or standard earnings from any distributor. This call or event has been put on by an independent distributor of Young Living and has not been sponsored by Young Living.”
Ensure the following disclaimer is stated on all pages of your website to avoid any legal issues. This is a risk as I do believe 90% of all Young Living independent distributor websites I have been to do not have ANY disclaimer posted.
“The statements on this website have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Products on this website are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Any mention of earnings or income should not be construed as representative of fixed or standard earnings from any distributor. This website is published by an independent source and not by Young Living.”
I personally start client consultations with this statement –
“You understand that I cannot diagnose or attempt to cure you. You acknowledge that I am not offering a cure or a diagnosis, and you acknowledge that you have been advised to see a licensed medical professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.”
Additional Guidelines:
I recommend you do not use the following terms:
- cured
- healed
- diagnosed
- treated
Also, keep in mind that no distributor should make the claims that a Young Living product cured or healed a particular disease or disorder, even if its your story.
Ensure all testimonials you use are within proper legal guidelines as stated above.
By operating within the legal guidelines of your state or country, you are providing responsible, appropriate care for your clients and customers when you share Young Living.

Isis, your site is amazing. I am loving reading all the great guidance and ideas.
I would add the words you CAN use. This is from an article that quoted Vicki Opfer, “I teach words such as support, relieve, ease, product, safe, pure, clean.” And don’t forget to always mention what the Young Living Essential Oils did for you and your family.
Tally, these were amazing additions. Thank you so much for your contributions!
I agree with Tally on word use I also allow individuals to be aware as to how they limit thier choosings.
Want and need to me are very limiting. Want is always in want Need is always in need.
The site and info is very awesome.
Thanks for your work.
