I have a friend who is a distributor of Discovery Toys. I personally have no interest in marketing or selling toys, but I definitely purchase from her on a regular basis to support her business, and because I believe that there is no such thing as lack in the world.

A joint venture is an agreement in which two or more  marketers work on a joint project for mutual benefit.

Joint ventures can be long-term, like promoting a product together.  Some can be short-term, like  bartering (trading) products or offering to cross-promote each other’s products or services. Joint venture ideas are virtually endless.

You want to be sure that the Joint Venture partner you choose however, is very reputable, will do business with you honorably and will cross-promote your products reliably. I recommend offering a kickback for anyone of her customers that may sign up under you as a thank you for her effort, and of course, vice versa.

Additionally, make certain your products are a good match for your partner’s customer list. If you are cross-promoting across retail channels for instance, you want to make certain you aren’t necessarily cross promoting essential oils to a list that buys legal services, for example.

Most people won’t feel comfortable cross-promoting to their active distributors for fear they’ll jump ship. However, by asking her to cross-promote only your retail products, but not necessarily the business opportunity often puts her at ease and enables a more trustworthy relationship to be established.
